Just when we thought they were done making intriguing casting announcements, Netflix’s Wednesday stepped it up a notch. The whole Addams fam is now cast—but more importantly, Game of Thrones‘ Brienne of Tarth (as she’s pictured above) has joined the show. Gwendoline Christie will play Larissa Weems, the principal of Nevermore Academy, Wednesday’s school—and apparently she “still has an axe to grind with her former classmate Morticia Addams.”

One would certainly like to hope that this show can do better than pitting women against women, but one is really not sure yet.

This is not quite as exciting as Christie’s other major upcoming Netflix role—playing Lucifer on The Sandman—but Wednesday’s sprawling ensemble cast is pretty appealing. Jenna Ortega stars as Wednesday Adams; Luis Guzmán and Catherine Zeta-Jones guest star as her parents, Gomez and Morticia Addams; and the rest of the previously announced cast includes Thora Birch (Walking Dead, Ghost World) as Wednesday’s “dorm mother” and Percy Hynes White (The Gifted‘s troubled Andy Strucker) as a supernaturally artistic student.

The series will follow young Wednesday as she heads off to the slightly ominously named Nevermore Academy, where she “attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”

Netflix also announced the actors playing Pugsley Addams (Isaac Ordonez), Thing (Victor Dorobantu), and Lurch (George Burcea), along with more of the ensemble: Tommie Earl Jenkins (Pandora) as Mayor Walker; Iman Marson as Lucas Walker; William Houston (Will) as Joseph Crackstone; Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo (Devs) as Deputy Santiago; Oliver Watson as Kent; Calum Ross as Rowan; and Johnna Dias Watson as Divina.

There are a lot of newcomers among the newly announced cast, so presumably they’re done making announcements now? Maybe? Does Gomez also need a rival?

Wednesday will be directed by Tim Burton, and comes from the minds of showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar (SmallvilleInto the Badlands). No premiere date has been announced for the eight-episode series.
